The Aegis Ring is crafted from six golden Gorgoneion medallions arranged in a wreath around the finger.
Both Athena and Zeus are said to have carried an aegis on their person. Athena’s aegis is often depicted as a shield with the face of the monstrous gorgon upon it, with Homer writing in the Iliad that it “produced a sound as from a myriad roaring dragons”. Virgil writes that in the blacksmith Hephaestus’ workshop the aegis is repaired and shined, “a fearsome thing with a surface of gold like scaly snake-skin, and the linked serpents and the Gorgon herself upon the goddess's breast”. The Aegis provides protection and power to Athena, and the Gorgoneion is worn today as part of that same tradition.
